A co-authored research project examining how ready U.S. states are to integrate AI into public services.

The question
What makes a state ready to use AI responsibly in public services? The Rutgers State AI Preparedness Project examines this question through four pillars: government, AI workforce, data, and infrastructure.
My contribution
I co-authored the project introduction and progress report with Michael Akinwumi, Itzhak Yanovitzky, and Kristoffer Shields. I presented the team's research at the 2025 American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Annual Meeting in Boston.
Why it matters
AI readiness is not a single technology purchase. Public institutions need to consider policy and governance, workforce capability, usable data, and infrastructure together. The published progress report discusses the methodology and preliminary findings while the team continued refining the index.
